I had wanted to visit Valle Cochamo, so after a long day and night on buses from Santiago, I made a stop by there on my way south. At the last minute, I decided to hike south from there to Lago Tagua Tagua. Compared to my wet and wild trips in Peru, it felt incredible to be back in summer. I relished in the warm summer nights, passing around mate with the Argentines and reading multiple books on my kindle. At times, I became too relaxed, reading in bed until midnight and midday, but overall, the trip was a very rejuvenating affair. I kept extending the trip since reading was taking up more time than planned. The solitude of the chilean forest felt so much nicer than the buses and hostels I had grown accustomed to. Four days later, I popped out at Lago Tagua Tagua and began hitching south on the Carretera Austral.
