Mt. Dade

I allowed myself one day of rest after my 14 hour epic up Mt. Tom, and then it was the weekend, which meant that Noe and Ellie would be getting up to some big adventures.

We set our alarms for a pre-dawn start on Saturday morning, and planned to ski the Hourglass Couloir on Mt. Dade. I hadn’t skied in two years so I was a bit nervous. I had kind of written off skiing as too complicated, prefering the simplicity of hiking, but this trip changed my mind. The feeling of ripping down the Couloir through perfect corn after hours hiking up was magical. I thought of those turns all summer on the CDT. That feeling was a big part of what brought me back to the Eastern Sierra. Thanks Noe and Ellie for getting me back out there!

Later on in the weekend, we went backcountry skiing again up on Tioga Pass, hung out at Gull Lake, went to the Happy’s, went to Mammoth’s closing day and even had a potluck back at their house! Who knew you could have so much fun in one weekend!
