Nevado del Toluca

After a week traveling by bus from San Diego, Max and I arrived in Mexico City. We were beat, but excited to explore this beautiful city. One day, we took the bus to Toluca, another bus as close as we could, and then hitchhiked to the base of the mountain. We quickly got a ride with a french couple, and then took the regularly scheduled truck to the end of the road.

The altitude was pretty severe. I had spent some time in the Sierra the month prior, which may have given me some marginal benefit, but Max did not enjoy such good fortune. Near the top, Max became very out of it. Some how, we both summited. Max remarked that we needed to descend with haste. Luckily, we both made it down safely. Based on Max’s condition, we nixed our plans to camp out. Soon enough we found ourselves a ride all the way back to Toluca, and Max was feeling much better. Later that night, we were back in Mexico City.
