Following old mining trails, a beautiful route travels directly over the Inyos, starting near Lone Pine, climbing over Forgotten pass, into Beveridge and descending towards Saline Valley. It was a dry winter, but we hit a bit of snow. Overall this route is a hidden gem, most 30 or so mile trails become quite popular, but we saw no one on this hike. I hiked across the Grand Canyon the next month, and I think there are a lot of similarities between the two hikes.
We ended our hike at the Saline Valley Hot Springs and marveled at the steep and snowy Inyos we had just crossed.
